Hi,

Welcome to my site. I’m a freelance sound engineer working in Live music, theatre and corporate events professionally since 2004 after heavy involvement in Live audio whilst at university learning something completely different led me into this as a career.

I’ve worked in several different environments and I’m as comfortable dealing with an event manager whilst in a shirt and tie as I am dealing with a performer on a stage. I’m as happy abroad as I am at home and used to adjusting to different environments and long stays away from home. Music is my main passion and I feel my strongest skill is forming relationships with musicians to deliver what they want to hear on stage, and giving them a FOH standard mix in their ears or their wedges. I’m happy too on FOH with multiple styles of music, appreciating the different mixes and techniques required by each one. I’m punctual, clean and I like to think professional 100% of the time.

Skills

  • Comfortable in FOH but especially monitors, both in bringing the best SPL and intelligibility from wedges/fills and also creating comfortable and “natural” sounding stereo IEM mixes to keep both experienced IEM users and virgins happy, with good separation of instruments they want to hear.
  • Experienced in planning, rigging and optimizing line array systems, including d&b and Nexo, comfortable with design software.
  • Not too young to have missed planning and understanding of point source systems before software, and know how to do so, as well as as time aligned supplementary additions with today’s systems.  Experience flying systems such as C4/Alpha before modern line array rigging made flying the norm.
  • Configuring speaker management systems, building of speaker systems
  • Skilled using analogue sound consoles along with all the patch and outboard racks that went with them.
  • Strong touring experience in Digital consoles including Digico, Soundcraft, Yamaha
  • Skilled at forming trustful and respectful relationships with performers, and interpreting their on stage needs, either on a long term tour or to pull off the the 20 minute soundcheck for the support band at a local venue.
  • Also worked in corporate and exhibition environments and what comes with them such as  last minute creative decisions changing everything, good at integrating with video and lighting crews to provide the final product. Smart and presentable appearance.
  • Proficient with playback software such as Qlab, Logic Express. Understanding of MIDI cue commands, time code, and comfortable triggering from or to sound consoles, computers, lighting consoles.
  • Strong understanding of computer networking and integration of many devices across one network either with dynamic or static IPs.
  • Trained in electric safety and power distribution.
  • Comfortable working at heights and licensed to use scissor lifts and cherrypickers.
